  1. Hi guys, another update: I have another building for the south district in the works. I also started another side department based in Maine. Most of my time however has been spent doing classwork, and 3D modeling 3D printed pieces for 1/64 vehicles with @ Joshua B . It has been a lot of fun and I can't wait for you guys to see what we have been up to! I also have been learning more about custom circuit board design so I can make my LEGO lighting setups even better.

I always kinda have a LEGO "Dark period" around this time of year, but never fear, I am not going anywhere, I just have too many hobbies and stuff I like doing to keep up with it all at once lol.

Oh cool! I’ve wanted to do that IRL for a long time but never did, maybe someday.

Maybe we need to take a break from 3D printing so you can finish? 🤔

  3. I'm wanting to give @  Michael P  cabinet design a try and I'm wondering from those who did it how did you get the snot tiles on each side of the rollup to work with the frame of the truck?

  4. So...I'm a bit stumped on this truck. Any one got any ideas on how to do the hose bed.

Trouble with that is, the white might be tamped in rather then painted, in which case if you try to take the lettering off you loose the white. Could be painted though, idk

Birthday Haul! Just the set I wanted! Perfect to go in my brand new cities Chinatown. I also got some tables (finally) and a Gaming PC (but its in the shop being built...). Overall a very cool birthday!

  8. Not sure if you guys have seen my IG stories or not, but if you have you will know I have been learning how to design custom PCBs. Here is a render of my first one. It will only have one program on it that cycles through multiple different patterns...in the future I would like to make one with a button to toggle through them. I keep changing the board design but this is the latest and my favorite of the versions.

    The board is 35 x 22 mm

  9. So, I've gotten the SBFR Rescue, Engine and Medic spec down, for my next station I need an SBFR Battalion Chief and Ladder spec, any suggestions?

A quint has a pump, so I think generally they have tanks, although I’m sure there are exceptions.

Ford is so overrated 🤦‍♂️ Y'all just never heard of variety I guess 🤷‍♂️

Rear mount ladder quint is what I'd do.

Haha, these were junky anyways so I don’t care but the Squad, that’s another story. I think I spared it except a bit of the chevrons on the back, which I forgot to cover with tape. The bumper numbers were underwater but don’t seem affected.

  14. Dare I say I’ve found a manufacturer that can compare to Skeeter Brush Trucks? They say you can’t beat a skeeter, and that’s probably true, but at least in looks this has got to be awful close. Those wheels 🤤

Not a skeeter that's for sure, really it's just an off the shelf off road bumper, lift, and wheels, but its a mean look especially for a fire truck. As near I can make out, it says Central High VFD on the side.

  15. Ok ok hear me out...

Maybe for the winter issue of the magazine we could do the Lego Emergency Magazine 2021 Awards and have tons of categories for stuff people have created over the last year (digitally and IRL) and then I'll create a panel of judges ( @ Sven, @ Josh, @Joshua B, @ Michael P, @Sarcityfd, @Rylie Davis and anyone else you guys can think of) to decide who wins each categories. Maybe we can even get some companies to sponsor us with prizes. Just an idea, any thoughts?

If you don't mind me nominating myself, since I haven't been able to build for the last few months and I don't see it happening in the near future, if I was a judge that would let somebody else participate. But probably a good idea have Sven and Michael as judges, if they participated they would smoke everyone else 😂

Contests, I like the idea. Judges, the more you have the less participants you have, so I’d leave it at 3. Sponsors, don’t count on that. I think just a sort of for fun contest with no prize except getting in the magazine would be the way to go.

  18. Well its been decided. What everyone knew as simple "Lego City" will slowly (and I mean slowly) but surely be made into San Brickardo. I need to order pieces but here are some things I'm working on:

Converting the modular police station (old LCPF 2nd Division) into SBPD 8th Precinct, and making 4 Ford Crown Vic squad cars to go with it (plus a detective car I've already started on). All based off @ Joshs Crown Vic design. I'm gonna try to print some decals (unfortunately my printer is black and white so gonna try and find a way to get around that).

Eventually (later on this summer) I'd like to build SBPD 7th precinct, its 5 crown vics, and possibly SBFR Engine 5. Might even get a start on the monorail...

If anyone has any suggestions about things that would make the buying process for all these bricks a bit cheaper let me know (my plan is to do some math and buy in bulk for the crown vics, should be a total of 9 for the 7th and 8th precincts)!

Decals you just print in black and load the printer with as close a match you can get to the color of the vehicle.

This is where I need your help to make this model look perfect... I know its a little tall and it looks a little compressed but what are some other relatively small changes I cam make to make this model look perfect? I will be decaling the finished version.

The front fenders at least should be brick built. Wheels is really a matter of playing around with what looks best, but I would start with balloons

Here's my honest opinion: big no on the wheels. Too tall with a too small footprint. Roof is too rounded, should be flat. The mirrors are wrong. The front end really doesn't cut it. I wouldn't use mud guards for the fenders, they look bad. Jeeps are best done in 6 wide with a 4 wide hood/grille/headlights and 1 stud fenders on either side. You might have better luck making a 4 door.

That said, I couldn't tell you how to do it right. I once built some old army jeeps, but those are boxier so quite a bit easier.

  22. I owe @Joshua B a HUGE thank you, for encouraging me to add some more details to my new ambulance spec. Bonus points: I made a photo realistic render of the strobe system in Blender 3D. (The thumbnail/first part looks crappy, my apologizes. I was experimenting with settings, still trying to figure it.) I have attached a few non-rendered pictures as well, just to show off the details.

Much better, great job! The one thing I would suggest is making the tall compartments 5 horizontal bricks high, and leave the entry doors how they are.  I made a not to good tutorial in the last issue of the LFC mag

The wheel I suggested for the back was https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=55982#T=C

  23. It's been almost a year now since I disassembled Ambulance 1-5. Today, I finally built it digitally. It is a slightly shorter version of 1-4. I also developed a new ambulance building system. All of the boxes are the same but the cabs are different. This way, I could disconnect an old cab, build a new cab and all the while leave the box the way it is.

    Ambulance 1-5.png

I like the cab, but the body lacks detail. Needs the slam door outlines I think. I see the cheese slopes in the bumper again; honestly don’t know why they there, I’ve never seen that on a real ambo. The rear bumper should always be 1 tile thick, held with the tops of 2x2 turn tables or slide shoes. Anything else looks way too bulky. I’d use 1x1 tiles instead of the plates you have as warning lights, and add scene lighting. Add some details to the bumper, like a siren or 2, compartment, and add air horns somewhere. Use the rims that have no technic tube thing in the middle on the back, to represent duals. Connect the bumper under the grille only, and have SNOT 1x1 bricks attached to the bumper coming back to form the front of the wheel well so it doesn’t look choppy. Use bricks for the side of the cab instead of plates for a cleaner look. Lastly, I’m not really liking the angle, it kinda fish-eyes everything out of proportion.  Good start, I just feel like it lacks the details of your other rigs
