oh boy! I am holding off on road designs right now, waiting to see what LEGO has in store for their new system, if it looks good in my city that is what I will do.

@JoshI already have several packs of baseplates, and from what I saw of the new ones they probably aren't gonna be that great, so I bought 3 more packs of the current ones. I might need a couple more in case I ever expand but I'm good for the moment. Still need to stockpile 32x32 green baseplates haha

    3. Josh

      Josh

Yeah from the leak I saw they look a bit sketchy. But that is to be expected. If they are bad I'll probably switch to a mils system so I can get that cozy, narrow Boston style roads.

  2. This is how it started (originally as Squad 2)...2012335387_IMG_20200728_22263312.thumb.jpg.b6fef5186b62317367eaa4434927b4c5.jpg

@Josh Thank you, it definitely did! There was also about 5 months in between them so I think I could do a little better at the Velo now haha

  3. If you can correctly guess the call sign (example: Ladder 3) of this rig I’ll make this my scheme 😬 although y’all can’t even see the color scheme in this pic anyway 😂

Unfortunately I’ve been busy lately with truck maintenance taking up most my free time and money, but I do have a few new things coming (pretty much I just need to chevron about 5 rigs haha). Some ARFF, SOC, and MERCY EMS is what the schedule’s looking like 😏

It is not that hard you guys... of course chevrons!!

  5. Here’s another pic of my city. I’ve since made some progress on the station and some houses too. Don’t pay any attention to MonsterMax rolling through haha

      Joshua B

Thank you! I’ve always envisioned building a church like that but never had the opportunity until a couple months ago. It’s actually survived a few city revamps so it’s one of my oldest buildings haha

  6. So far so good 🤙

I like it. Has a small town feel. The palm tree seems out of place

    2. Joshua B

      Joshua B

Haha it does seem like that in this pic, however about half of the city is more downtown. I chose to build a piece of Algonquin right on the edge of town so I could do it half rural and half urban if you know what I mean. And the palm tree fits in pretty well if you can see the rest, I'll post an overhead pic later.

  7. Anybody got ideas for the layout of a 5 bay station? I’m not liking my first try, especially the white windows.

By the way it doesn’t have to be built for a corner or anything, it can go pretty much anywhere.

@Josh I actually have a modular downtown single-bay station I recently finished I’ll post some time. Those are great stations! I’ve got an idea sketched out in my head but I have a feeling it won’t work out the way I’m hoping so I’m open to ideas haha

  9. Big things be coming 😬 See if you can spot the rig in this pic 264566353_IMG_20201010_13501552.thumb.jpg.8a1a7d9f93cfe48dff0a005d4970545c.jpg

Although I've been back from the Rockies for several weeks, since ya'll seemed to like those canyon pics I decided to use some of the (slightly less grand) scenery in my own yard, so pics of this latest one will be taken from the top of a 20' drop off 😂 In all fairness, it doesn't look as steep in the pics haha

Also when I get the pics off my camera, Mt Rushmore might be involved somehow 😬😬😬

    1. Josh

      Josh

Lets not forget that emergency bricks is acting up haha.

Edit: found the rig, has an ARFF shape to it.

    2. Joshua B

      Joshua B

      This is true 😂

  10. It finally dawned on me, while staring at a breathtaking landscape of the Rocky Mountains capped in snow, how to connect the SNOT compartments that @Michael P. (as well as several others) used on his rigs a couple years ago. Unfortunately this technique is too expensive for me to use on all my rigs, but it may or may not be used on one or two soon 😏

    E6E3024E-698E-42F0-995F-7A96F1B7255E.jpeg

    1. Michael P.

      Michael P.

Lol if I wasn't concerned about functional compartments, I would most definitely use this technique. For sure it's one of my favorite styles, but unfortunately has no place in my fleet. I'm currently in the process of switching out my fleet with these compartments to the functional ones haha

  11. What do y'all think, 4x4 or 6x6 for a crash unit? It'll be my only crash unit so I'm debating between agility and tank size/more compartment space. Keep in mind there will also be a small RIV and a tandem axle pumper tanker stationed at the airport.

    1. Show previous comments  2 more
    2. Joshua B

      Joshua B

@Josh @Rylie D I'm picturing something more medium size. There's already a 3000+ish (I haven't finalized the specs) tandem axle tanker stationed there so it doesn't need to hold a crazy amount of water. But hey, the bigger the better (and cooler), so I went with 6x6 😂 Definitely gonna be one of my most unique builds, especially because it's gonna be built by a smaller MFG that I didn't even know built ARFF.

    3. Josh

      Josh

I got bit by the ARFF bug too, I'm redesigning my striker lol.

    4. Joshua B

      Joshua B

Lol I stumbled across this one while looking at snorkels and though it wouldn't be too hard to build in LEGO haha

Unfortunately I won't have any unique color schemes for it (I'm trying to save $$ for other stuff), but if your lucky an orange stripe might be involved 😬

  12. So I've downsized my fleet to just stations 2, 3, and 4 (plus the Marine station) for the moment, Station 1 might be back soon but I'm not sure. Station 4 is currently headquarters.

I'm also building just a few ARFF units, keep an eye out for them!

    1. Rylie D

      Rylie D

Cool. I plan on having only 3 stations too (small town fleet) maybe a ARRF unit in the future for BVMA (Brick Valley Municipal Airport)😉 are you gonna destroy some rigs?

    2. Joshua B

      Joshua B

Oh yeah, a while back I scrapped nearly a dozen, and a few more recently. I'm still trying to go for a big department, but instead of a big city department it's like a rural department that covers an enormous area, so they have a lot of rigs. Of course the City of Algonquin is big too, but mostly Station 4 will handle most of the urban call with help from the other stations in the suburban areas. My plan is to bring Station 1 back as a 1 bay downtown station (hopefully in real bricks 😬) with just a quiller.

Eventually when I've mostly finished with rebuilding my city and have a little more cash to spare I'll start slowly rebuilding my fleet up to what it was a month or so ago with 6 large stations, but it will take a long time since there's a fat price tag on detailed rigs 🤔'

Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention, I've decided to make a new station for the ARFF vehicles, instead of making them part of Station 2. So station 2 will end up a little smaller (I took Truck 2, the old ALF out of service unfortunately), but I think it'll work out better.

    3. Rylie D

      Rylie D

Cool. The same thing I'm going for in my dept. A big fleet that covers a rural area. Can't wait to see what ya got planned!

@Rylie D Kinda sorta not really... maybe an *ahem* *cough cough* snorkel? *cough cough* 😂

@Josh Thank you! It's not turning out too well tbh so it might take a while until I'm happy.

    3. Josh

      Josh

This is super weird but it helps me: build towers or ladders from ladder down, rather than wheels up. It helps keep all the dimensions right.

    4. Josh

      Josh

Its super awkward and basically doubles build time, personally it has worked better for me.

  14. Here's a few progress pics of what I got done today in my city, enjoy!

I started with moving the sidewalk of the Pet Shop onto a road baseplate,IMG_20201004_1859130.thumb.jpg.65629b6c533735a155baa9e01414315d.jpg

and then I started laying out some of my new road baseplates (I bought 3 packs which worked out pretty good with what I already had) and did as much of the sidewalks and curbs as I could before ordering parts,

    IMG_20201004_1924559.thumb.jpg.56c5a349fceab4cd84d46cbc0ab36aba.jpg

then put the townhouses and church back (they're about the only things that will stay), laid out some more road baseplates, and started on the fire station,IMG_20201004_2026319.thumb.jpg.18101fd4b0d87021af40f15b3daca736.jpg

and lastly, did some more work on the curbs and sidewalks and (sort of) finished the station. Honestly not crazy happy with it, I'll post some better pics soon and y'all can tell me what you think. It's lit with some third party lighting off amazon, and yes, that is a broken cable 😂 the wires are pretty flimsy hahaIMG_20201004_2111446.thumb.jpg.c9135c4c64e669e25246e0eccd585b67.jpg

Very cool. I'm planning on redoing my town. Next weekend I have a 3day weekend so I can get some work done(unless my GF wants to FaceTime all day😅). I like the sidewalks. I use that lighting and it works well for me.

    3. Joshua B

      Joshua B

Aren't you still working on your town? Yup, 2 plate tall sidewalks definitely look a lot better!

    4. Rylie D

      Rylie D

@Joshua B yep. I decided to change it a bit but haven't gotten to that with school and stuff

    3. Josh

      Josh

Ain't that the truth. My Boston rig was a simple flat surface...still took a good hour to trim just right.

  17. Here are a couple more views of one my RAM pickups. Credit of course to Michael P for the front and CC for the tow mirrors.

    It is a 2019 RAM 2500 12v Cummins 5.9l with a 6" lift on 37.5"s. Pretty much my dream truck IMG_20200927_1627057.thumb.jpg.66728cdaf9ebe1bc7c53ec33422514da.jpg

Yuck those Broncos look awful 😂 I definitely wouldn’t mind a manual Corvette though

I think they look great! The OG bronco is still better though.

  18. Anybody else rock this rig? 😎🤙 Reserve Wildland 2 miiiiiiight be getting some upgrades 😉

      Joshua B

Uhhhh big difference here, never compare a ford to a RAM, we don't want to embarrass the ford fans 😂😂😂 Plus it's a 5 wide truck with a 7 wide trailer so the scale is a bit different. Thank you!

    3. Rylie D

      Rylie D

@Joshua Bhaha. I'm loosing my mind.

  19. I put up some pics of that multi-structure fire on my site last night, check em out! Tbh it wasn't much of an incident, I just needed the buildings to go to make room for some big improvements coming to my town 😂Pretty much just set some smoke and a couple rigs there lol https://algonquinfd.weebly.com/news--incidents/greater-alarm-fire

Speaking of buildings and improvements, what do y'all think of this little façade I whipped up last night? I'm thinking I'll build a few of these to basically serve as place holders in my planned new downtown area as I slowly build/buy better modulars.IMG_20200924_2358419.thumb.jpg.98f19ab0c01d242b6aac66ecc87a6ae2.jpg

To give you a bit of an idea of my future plans for my little piece of Algonquin, I plan on partially redoing my layout to incorporate a small modular street, improved LCSD and AFD stations, a small waterfront where Marine 1 and Dive Rescue 3 will be stationed, a campground / woodsy type area AND hopefully 2 plate tall curbs 😬 Ideally I plan on having most of this done within a year but you know how that goes 😂 Let's just say my city will probably be torn up for a looooong time lol

    1. Josh

      Josh

My city gets torn up every month lol 😂

    2. Joshua B

      Joshua B

      Lol fair enough 😂

  20. AFD, LCSD, and multiple units from M/A departments are currently on scene of massive fire sweeping through downtown. The fire has been raging for 3 hours so far, occupying 4 buildings and threatening more. 3 civilian fatalities have already been accounted for, and 2 firefighters nearly lost their lives when a structure collapsed and they were trapped. Fortunately they were rescued by members of PVFD with one in critical condition and the other suffering from a leg injury.

More information and photos of the blaze to follow.

  21. Looking back through some old pics, I realized how drastically better my pumps have become. Pumps used to be the worst part of every rig for me, I absolutely dreaded them because I was so bad at them. I may not be as good as guys like CC and Michael, but I'm now very comfortable building them, and have definitely improved. Below is a bit of comparison between one of my earliest pumps and one of my current ones. Of course, I could not have come this far if it hadn't been for techniques from @TheRealCC and @Michael P., and for @Sven encouraging me to try new things.

      Joshua B

Hahaha the only trouble for me now is finding black minifig hands and headlight bricks 😂 You’ve definitely gotten a lot better, keep at it bro!

  22. Flashback to when I had a lot more time and a lot less skill... and a little comparison with Station 2’s most recent apparatus. This is the second generation of Engine 2, IMO the first generation was better but I have no pics of it.

Yup I saw that, you certainly have improved!

  24. Squad 2 is pictured here after a cliff rescue in the northwestern part of the department's coverage, near Lake Laramie. Tower 4 was able to lower the maneuverable Ascendant midmount aerial partway into the canyon to access the patient while Brush 4 and Wildland 4 assisted from the canyon floor. Few pictures were taken, since the trees and dense brush made visibility difficult.
